ABOUT VILLA FJELLHEIM
Fjellheim is the local name of the property, in Jostedal - and all the local know it by this name. Originally the property was farm land, and all farms had names - this was Fjellheim (translates to 'mountain home'). It has been called Nigardsbreen Gjesteheim and Nigardsbreen Lodge before, since it has the perfect view to the glacier Nigardsbreen. When Ole and Janniche bought the place they went back to the roots and named it Villa Fjellheim.
Villa Fjellheim is still a lodge, tailored for groups from 5-18 persons. You must rent the whole villa, and can chose if you want to rent self-service and self-catered, or with a host and meals.

1950s
The house was built in 1954, and was built as a boarding house to welcome tourist that wanted to experience the glacier and nature around it.
It was built and run by husband and wife Anna and Lars. They lived in the house with their children.
Local people all know Anna, who run the cafe, made the food and also hosted a lot of weddings and funerals in Jostedal. Most girls in Jostedal has worked here in the summer, learning how to clean the way Anna liked.
The glacier was large in the 50s and the view was spectacular, as you can see.
The firs years the house had no paint.
1964
This is a postcard taken by Normanns Kunstforlag in 1964. So it must have been painted red somtime during the years. She has established a lawn, and a shed in the garden. We still call it the pig's house, so we think they had pigs there.
The glacier is still large.

The 1970s
Fjellheim was painted dark brown. We can only guess the year looking at the cars and how tall the trees are. Maybe in the 70's. Anna had established a garden, and was known for it. Most farmers didn't have time or room for a garden those days, so it was always nice going to Fjellheim for a cup of coffee and a piece of cake in the garden.
Most kids in Jostedal also learned how to dance at Fjellheim. The company name was Nigardsbreen Gjesteheim, but locally it was known as Fjellheim still. Anna and Lars was great dancers, and taught others the art of dancing Norwegian folk dance, or hosted dance lessons on the first floor.
1990s
The color of the house was grey, probably in the 90s. This is also a postcard, and it shows a large hedge of trees in the background - hiding the view, but probably making it less windy.
The balcony is more built-in and they have extended the loft. The loft was mostly used for drying clothes and storage space.

2006-2018
The color of the house became red again.
When Anna died there were a few years Fjellheim was not open for guests. Then in 2006 it was bought, refurbished and opened again. It was then called Nigardsbreen Lodge.
The balcony was built in, and room 3 and 4 became larger with this. The lovely wall-paper on the top floor bedrooms was put up around 2009 we think.
Kitchen and bathroom was modernized, but the house was still kept mostly as in the past.
It was close again in 2018, and was put up for sale in 2020, when Ole and Janniche bought it.
2021 and onwards
Janniche and Ole took over. They wanted to make the lodge feel more like a Villa, and also to keep the name Fjellheim, since every local person called it Fjellheim anyway. So Villa Fjellheim became the new name.
Janniche and Ole wanted Fjellheim to become a destination that was open alle year around, and was tailored for tourist groups that wants to experience the great outdoors, and the beautiful indoors.
They started to insulate the house for cold winters, adding heating sources, and heated floors where it was needed to be able to dry clothes and keep warm. Every change to enhance comfort, function and respect the beauty outside.
They painted it dark again to suit both nature and architecture, and added a modern balcony and new entrance with bathroom and boot room to work well for big groups with a lot of shoes and outwear.
